Whoever comes into these regions, into Bieszczady Mountains or Lower Beskid Mountains, meets on their way numerous and mostly wooden Orthodox Churches, blended in perfectly with the mountain landscape. There used to be much more these churches in the past but the turbulent times of World War II significantly decreased the number of the churches. Those which remained perfectly present the culture of the people of the mountains. In order to bring closer that disappearing cullture to our tourists, we decided to create the „Route of Icons”. The Route shows most interesting aschitectural objects of Greek-Catholic and Orthodox Churches of Sanok’s land
      The first route is devoted to the valley of the River San, then Sanok (Sanok-Ulucz), the second route deals with the valley of River Osława, and it goes along the mail road: Sanok-Zagórz-Komańcza- the border between Poland and Slovakia. We hope that comfortable shoes and precise map will allow you to relish the beauty of wooden architecture of Łemkowie culture.
